Genshin Impact has officially unveiled its upcoming 4-Star character, Iansan, as part of Version 5.5. Players have eagerly awaited the arrival of this hero from Natlan, and now the time has come to see how she fits into the ever-expanding world of Teyvat. Iansan, known as “Tempered in Molten Stone,” is the latest addition to the roster and will join the Traveler in exploring the fiery lands of Natlan.
Iansan is a member of the Collective of Plenty, a faction dedicated to balance and prosperity, and serves as the mentor and fitness coach of the 5-Star Electro Catalyst character, Varesa. In terms of gameplay, Iansan stands out as a 4-Star Electro Polearm user. While players may have expected her to be another damage dealer, her kit is tailored more toward support. Her abilities focus on providing strong buffs to the team, with particular emphasis on enhancing the active character's ATK.
One of the most exciting aspects of Iansan’s abilities is her dynamic buff system. Unlike Bennett, whose ATK buff is confined to a small area, Iansan’s buff extends to the active character and even rewards players for keeping their character moving. By performing combat actions and moving around, players can extend the duration of the buff. This mechanic offers an engaging and rewarding gameplay loop, making Iansan an interesting alternative to some of the game’s more traditional supports, like Bennett.
In terms of lore, Iansan's role in the game has been long awaited. As one of the six Heroes of Natlan, she was featured in the Archon Quest but has not yet had the chance to fully shine in the spotlight. Version 5.5 will give her the opportunity to prove her worth to players, especially as she becomes more involved in the ongoing story. The introduction of Iansan coincides with the release of Natlan's next map expansion, which includes the Great Volcano of Tollan, home to the elusive Tatankasaurs, and a deeper dive into the Collective of Plenty.
Alongside Iansan, Version 5.5 will also feature the 5-Star character Varesa, as well as the continuation of the Natlan storyline. Players can expect new quests, new regions to explore, and the chance to further engage with the diverse tribal factions that make up Natlan. Though Iansan does not have a dedicated Story Quest or Tribal Chronicle, it is possible that she will feature prominently in an upcoming Flagship Event or Hangout, similar to past characters like Kaveh and Chevreuse.
Genshin Impact players can expect Version 5.5 to launch on March 26, 2025. With the arrival of Iansan, the excitement for new content and fresh character builds continues to build, especially as Natlan becomes an increasingly central region in the ongoing Archon Quests.
